Double, double, toil and trouble! With Halloween around the corner, a classic All Hallows’ Eve activity is in full swing—pumpkin carving. There’s a long history to why we carve pumpkins. But that doesn’t mean we always carve them with ease. Carving can quickly turn messy (for kids and adults alike). Plus, pumpkins aren’t always simple to design or maneuver.

Cue everyone’s favorite grandmother, Babs Costello (aka TikTok sensation @brunchwithbabs) who has us covered thanks to some genius pumpkin carving hacks. Babs never fails to break down the most challenging of house chores and activities (her guide on how to load a dishwasher the right way is a lifesaver!). As one TikToker says in Babs comments, “how do you make everything easier.” Aka, prepare to take notes on how to carve a pumpkin the Babs way.

I mean, if Babs suggests something, we know it’s brilliant. These pumpkin carving hacks offer no exception.

Babs’ Do’s and Don’ts of Pumpkin Carving Hacks

Like many, carving pumpkins for Halloween “is a treasured tradition in our family,” Babs says. Yet, she explains, yuck and mess can plague the process. Before resorting to no-carve pumpkin ideas, try Babs’ tips and hacks that “cut the job in half” for the perfect jack-o-lanterns.

Take note, these hacks are no joke. TikTok can’t get enough of them! Babs’ pumpkin carving video has 4 million likes. Take a look at the viral do’s and don’ts of pumpkin carving that the home hack guru suggests.

@brunchwithbabs 🎃Do’s and Don’ts of Pumpkin Carving 🎃It is a treasured tradition in our family to carve jack-o-lanterns for Halloween. But with all the yuck and mess, sometimes my kids would quit the project before we even started. Babs’ Do’s and Don’ts for Pumpkin Carving, saves the mess and speeds up carving so you can have the perfect jack-o-lantern with no mess and no fuss. Happy Halloween 🎃XO Babs 1. Carve from bottom. That way you have the stem to hold onto and you can easily slip the pumpkin right over a candle or flashlight. 2. Hold pumpkin in your lap to carve. You will have a much steadier pumpkin to cut. 3. Use a red dry erase marker to sketch your design. It erases easily and if you miss a spot, it blends in. 4. Use a hand mixer to clean out your pumpkin. 5. Use cookie cutters and a rubber mallet to carve your design. 6. Cover all cut surfaces with Vaseline to keep the pumpkin moist after carving. Pumpkins should last 1-2 weeks carved! 7. Sprinkle some cinnamon on the inside top of your pumpkin for festive pumpkin spice smell when a candle is lit inside the pumpkin. 🎃 #pumpkincarving ♬ original sound – everyone’s grandmother

Tip #1: Sit, don’t stand

First, “don’t stand and carve your pumpkin, sit!” Babs advises. Carve the pumpkin resting on your lap for a steady work surface.

Tip #2: Cut out the bottom of the pumpkin

Babs hollows out pumpkins from the bottom rather than the top. This takes out the hassle of trying to perfectly position a candle in the pumpkin. Instead, just slip the carved pumpkin over a tea light. Plus, you can hold onto the stem while carving, too. It’s that simple.

Tip #3: Clean out pumpkin “guts” with a hand mixer

Instead of cleaning pumpkins out by hand, use a hand mixer. That’s right, “get all those strings cleaned out!” The mixer does the heavy lifting of loosening the pumpkin strings. Then you’re free to scoop out the guts.

Psst… Don’t forget to save the seeds. You can roast pumpkin seeds for a snack later on.

Tip #4: Use a dry erase marker to sketch designs

Switch out permanent marker for a dry erase marker when designing pumpkins. Dry erase markers (Babs uses a red marker) erase easily and missed spots can blend into the pumpkin. As Babs says, “you can get rid of the lines after you carve.”

Tip #5: Carve pumpkins with a mallet and cookie cutter

Let’s face it, carving pumpkins with a knife is way harder than it needs to be. That’s why Babs suggests using a cookie cutter and rubber mallet to carve out your design. Make sure to remove the dry erase marker lines once the carved pumpkin pieces are pushed out.

Tip #6: Lengthen pumpkin life with Vaseline

“Don’t let all your work go to waste,” Babs says. To fully enjoy carved pumpkins, cover the cut surfaces of pumpkins with Vaseline. This keeps the pumpkin moist so it doesn’t dry out as quickly, which preserves it for around 1-2 weeks. That’s way beyond the 3-5 days a pumpkin usually lasts.

Tip #7: Scent jack-o-lanterns with cinnamon

Create a fall-scented jack-o-lantern by sprinkling cinnamon on the inside top of pumpkins. Place the pumpkin over a candle for a pumpkin that not only looks amazing, but smells wonderful too. It’s like pumpkin spice!

A grateful TikToker commented, “I was today years old when I realized I’ve been doing this the hard way my entire life!” Another commented, “Babs, you never fail to impress and teach me something new, and inspiring.” And with hacks this good, we can’t help but agree.

If you need us, we’ll be carving pumpkins the Babs way all spooky season long. Happy Halloween!

It’s official, pumpkin season is in full swing. That means we’re bringing all of our best pumpkin recipes to the forefront. It’s sweater weather, so a PSL in one hand and a pumpkin treat in the other arguably makes fall the best time of year.

Here’s another TikTok recipe to add to your list of pumpkin faves for chilly mornings: cinnamon roll pumpkin pancakes. Is this a recipe for cinnamon rolls? Is it pancakes? It’s both, of course!

What are cinnamon roll pumpkin pancakes?

Think pumpkin cinnamon rolls in pancake form. It’s possible—two tasty breakfasts rolled together into one irresistible treat. Imagine a stack of fluffy pancakes with caramelized cinnamon sugar swirls. Then add pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice for a delicacy that says autumn like no other breakfast can.

How to Make Cinnamon Roll Pumpkin Pancakes

We came across this recipe from food and lifestyle creator Well Made by Kiley and knew it was a culinary masterpiece. I mean, with a combination of two of our favorites, how could we not be obsessed? It’s fall genius at its finest. Here’s how to make the pancakes!

@wellmadebykiley PUMPKIN CINNAMON ROLL PANCAKES All of my Gilmore Girls girlies uniteee 🍂 I can’t even put into words how good these are??? 🤯 Caramelized cinnamon sugar swirls in a stack of soft, tender, and fluffy pumpkin pancakes – truly a dream 🤎recipe below! #Recipe Details: Ingredients: – 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour @Bob’s Red Mill – 3 tbsp coconut sugar or brown sugar – 1 1/4 tsp baking powder – 3/4 tsp baking soda – 1/4 tsp salt – 1 tsp cinnamon – Optional: 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice – 1/2 cup pumpkin puree – 3/4 cup + 2 tbsp buttermilk (can sub milk of choice) – 1 tbsp butter, melted – 1 egg – 1 tsp vanilla extract Cinnamon Swirl: – 4 tbsp butter, softened – 1/4 cup granulated sugar – 2 tsp cinnamon – 1 tbsp of the pancake batter Maple Glaze: – 1/2 cup powdered sugar – 2 tbsp maple syrup + 1 tbsp milk – 1/2 tsp vanilla extract Instructions: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, coconut or brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and pumpkin pie spice (if using). In a medium bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, buttermilk, butter, eggs, and vanilla. Add the wet ingredients into the dry and use a spatula or wooden spoon to mix until just combined. In a small separate bowl, make the cinnamon swirl mixture by mixing together the butter, sugar, cinnamon, and 1 tbsp of the pancake batter. Transfer the mixture to a small plastic sandwich baggie, and snip a small portion of the corner off. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and grease with butter. Use a 1/4 cup to pour the pancake batter into the skillet for each pancake. Use the piping baggie full of the cinnamon swirl mixture and gently swirl the mixture into the pancake, pushing slightly into the batter so the cinnamon mixture swirls into the batter, not just on top. Once bubbles appear on the surface, gently flip the pancake over and cook the other side for a minute, or until golden. Repeat with remaining batter and cinnamon swirl mixture. Serve pancakes warm with additional butter, maple syrup, or a simple glaze if desired. Ingredients

Pancake batter:

  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons brown or coconut sugar
  • 1-1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (optional)
  • 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cinnamon swirl:

  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon of pancake batter

Maple glaze:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1: Mix dry ingredients

First, whisk the flour (Kiley uses Bob’s Red Mill), sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice in a large bowl.

Step 2: Mix wet ingredients

Next, whisk together pumpkin puree, buttermilk, eggs and vanilla in a medium bowl.

Step 3: Combine wet and dry ingredients

Combine the wet and dry ingredients and mix with a spatula or wooden spoon. Make sure the ingredients are fully mixed.

Step 4: Prep the cinnamon swirls

Mix softened butter, sugar, cinnamon and a tablespoon of the pancake batter in a small bowl. Move this mixture to a small plastic baggie and cut a tiny corner of the bag off. This bag will be used to create the cinnamon roll swirls in the pancakes.

Step 5: Pour batter onto a hot skillet

Set a large skillet or griddle over medium heat; drop in a pat of butter. From there, pour pancake batter to create each pancake and then maneuver the small bag to create cinnamon swirls. It should lightly push into the batter, not just rest on the surface.

Step 6: Flip!

When bubbles appear, it’s time to flip that pancake. Cook for around a minute or until golden.

Just add maple syrup and you’ve got an unforgettable fall breakfast!

You have to have a mimosa at brunch or breakfast. It’s a staple. I mean, does anything say “brunch” like the signature orange juice and champagne combo of a mimosa? We think not. For a spooky take on this simple drink, people are making hauntingly tasty “Monster Mash” mimosas!

This recipe is ideal for Halloween breakfast or a Hocus Pocus party at any time of day. Here’s how to make the perfect All Hallows’ Eve cocktails.

What’s in this Halloween mimosa?

It may sound like the mimosas are full of creatures of the night, but the glittering drinks are actually quite sweet. According to TikTok creator The Spritz Effect (@thespritzeffect), her Monster Mimosas taste “like sweet champagne with a hint of melon!” Thanks to the magic of edible glitter, this sparkly delight of melon liqueur and champagne makes for a mimosa worthy of Frankenstein.

How to Make Monster Mash Mimosas

The mimosas are a pretty straightforward recipe. As The Spritz Effect says, “these couldn’t be any cuter (or easier)!” That may explain why they’re so popular, racking up nearly 600,000 likes on TikTok. Here’s how to make the eerie viral cocktail. Or, as one TikTok user commented, “the most beautiful mimosas we’ve ever seen!”

@thespritzeffect Monster Mash (melon) mimosas for your spooky brunches this month! Just add a half ounce of melon liqueur to your bubbly! Ingredients

  • Just enough vanilla frosting to rim a glass
  • Halloween sprinkles
  • Pinch of edible glitter
  • 1/2 ounce melon liqueur
  • Enough champagne to fill the glass

Directions

To create this sparkly Halloween mimosa, start by rimming a drinking glass with vanilla frosting and Halloween sprinkles. The Spritz Effect uses bats and ghosts from Target but any spooky sprinkles will do.

From there, add a pinch of edible glitter to the glass—The Spritz Effect’s is from Fancy Sprinkles—and half an ounce of melon liqueur. Fill the rest of the glass with champagne for a cocktail that offers “no tricks, just treats!” as The Spritz Effect says.

Now that you know how to make ’em, add these mimosas to the list of Halloween drinks for the season. In fact, bring a batch of Halloween mimosas to any upcoming brunches, potlucks or Halloween parties for a smash hit!

The post Raspberry Rally Girl Scout Cookies Have Been Discontinued for 2024 appeared first on Taste of Home.

]]>
Many fans of Girl Scout Cookies never even got to taste the latest treat—and now it may be too late.

The new Raspberry Rally cookie had a catchy name and a fresh flavor. Raspberry Rally was a twist on Thin Mints, which is almost every state’s favorite Girl Scout Cookie. Like Thin Mints, the cookies were thin, crispy and dipped in smooth chocolaty coating. But instead of being jazzed up with mint, these cookies were infused with raspberry flavor. Our new Girl Scout Cookie review praised Raspberry Rally for its “mild chocolaty flavor” and “not-too-sweet raspberry taste.”

It joined the Girl Scout Cookie lineup for 2023 but won’t be available during the cookie season in 2024.

Raspberry Rally Has Been Discontinued

Girl Scouts Raspberry Rally Cookie

Instead of being able to buy Raspberry Rally cookies from your favorite neighborhood Girl Scout, cookie monsters had to buy them online. A little less personal, perhaps. But it did allow people who don’t know a Girl Scout, or who live far away from where the Scouts set up their sales tables, to get in on the fun. And they sure did, because Raspberry Rally cookies sold out quickly!

But popularity couldn’t save the flavor. A representative for Girl Scouts of the USA didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment, but as CNN Business reports, the Raspberry Rally has run its course. The boxed treat won’t be sold this upcoming cookie season, which runs from January to April 2024.

“While Raspberry Rally was extremely popular last year, we are taking a pause this season to prioritize supplying our classic varieties,” the Girl Scouts of the USA said in a statement to CNN.

What’s next for Raspberry Rally?

Girl Scouts New Raspberry Rally Cookie

While it’s possible the flavor will never return, we’re holding out some serious hope. “Taking a pause” sounds better than “moving on from” or “replacing with a new flavor.” Since the Raspberry Rally cookie sold so quickly, maybe the Scouts will bring them back in 2025—whether online-only or through the regular selling channels.

For now, Raspberry Rally fans can stock up on eBay, where the boxes are being sold for anywhere from $24.99 to $200.

You might want to try one of our many copycat Girl Scout cookie recipes. While we don’t have a recipe for Raspberry Rally, I bet if you used raspberry flavoring instead of peppermint in the Thin Mint recipe, you might come close. Happy baking!

Fall is full of dazzling flavors—apple cider doughnuts and pumpkin spice everything come to mind. When I was a kid, there was only one treat that I wanted when the leaves started to change. It’s a sticky staple at apple orchards and farm stands… the caramel apple! Enveloped in caramel with just the right amount of tart, crisp apple, it hit my fall-lovin’ sweet spot every time. Plus, it’s an apple, so it’s healthy, right?

Now that I’m older, it’s time to take my childhood snacks to the next level. Hello, caramel apple charcuterie board.

Caramel Apple Charcuterie Board Ideas

You’ve dabbled in the Halloween boards for savory snacks, but it’s time for dessert to take center stage. Grab your caramel apple toppings (and Halloween candy) and get ready to dip apples like you’ve never dipped before.

The Taste of Home caramel apple board above includes a couple different types of apples, like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp and Gala, to name a few. You can leave some apples whole for a pop of color, but slice most of the apples, because it’s so much easier for sharing that way. The board includes caramel apple dip alongside myriad toppings for your dipping pleasure:

  • crushed nuts
  • cranberries
  • mini M&M’s
  • mini marshmallows
  • chocolate chips
  • sprinkles
  • pecans

Taste of Home finished our board with delicious extras like pretzel rods, graham crackers, popcorn balls and cream cheese fruit dip. Don’t forget the skewers!

Instagram creators have fun take on this amazing trend, too. @shopwithems integrates a slow cooker into the mix to create milk and white chocolate dips. @glambytes made everything cute and organized by sorting her caramel apple toppings into a muffin tin for easy cleanup.

Everyone has different tastes and interests, so make the caramel apple charcuterie board trend all your own.

Fun for the Whole Family

Like I mentioned above, caramel apples were a childhood fall staple for me. Use this caramel apple board board to make memories with your kiddos. Definitely ask them for fun caramel apple topping ideas! Maybe crumble up Oreos and chocolate chip cookies, to add a different texture. Slice up their favorite types of apples and add in some Halloween candy. Who says you can’t have sour gummy worms—it’s Halloween!

Keep an eye on the kids around things that are hot or sharp. You can use forks instead of skewers and serve dips that are fully cooled. And, as always, feel that fall fun!

The Rochester ‘Garbage Plate’ Has Been a New York Secret for Far Too Long https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/rochester-garbage-plate/ https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/rochester-garbage-plate/#respond Thu, 12 Oct 2023 22:46:17 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=1920157 Don't worry—the Garbage Plate is anything but trash.

The post The Rochester ‘Garbage Plate’ Has Been a New York Secret for Far Too Long appeared first on Taste of Home.

]]>
In Rochester, New York, the “Garbage Plate” holds a special place in people’s hearts and stomachs. For the uninitiated, the dish doesn’t contain any actual garbage, unless you count the paper plate it’s served on. As local legend goes, the Garbage Plate was invented many moons ago at a lunch counter called Nick Tahou Hots. A group of college students rolled in one day and requested a plate with “all the garbage on it.” In response, late owner Nick Tahou crafted a distinct combination plate that’s became a cherished local favorite.

The name “Garbage Plate” is now a registered trademark of Nick Tahou Hots, but the essence of the Garbage Plate can be found all over Rochester, from humble burger joints to upscale dining establishments. Each place has its own interpretation, listed on the menu as a “Rochester Plate,” “Trash Plate,” “Hot Plate” or “Junkyard Plate.” What sets the Garbage Plate apart is the twist that each eatery brings to the iconic dish.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Rochester Garbage Plate!

What is a Garbage Plate?

@visitrochester For us, we really like Garbage Plates 🍔📍Nick Tahou’s Hots #VisitROC #thisisroc #rochesterny #upstateny #newyork #garbageplates ♬ It’s Corn – Tariq & The Gregory Brothers & Recess Therapy

The Garbage Plate features your choice of cheeseburger, hamburger, Italian sausage, steak, chicken or white hots (a regional hot dog found in Rochester) served on a heap of home fries, french fries, baked beans and macaroni salad. What truly sets it apart, however, is the signature Rochester hot sauce, which is a spicy meat-based sauce that’s reminiscent of Cincinnati chili. If you’d like to tempt fate, opt to add mustard and onions as a heartburn-inducing garnish. You mix everything together and wolf it down with a side of bread and butter.

Who has the best Garbage Plate in Rochester?

It’s important to note there’s no such thing as the “best” Garbage Plate. Every interpretation is different and each is beautiful in its own way. To experience the original that started it all, visit Nick Tahou’s Hots. Some other popular spots include Bill Gray’s Dog Town Hots, Jeremiah’s Tavern, Genesee Brew House, the Gate House, Marshall Street Bar & Grill and the concession stand at Innovative Field, home of the minor league Rochester Reds.

For a unique take on the Garbage Plate, order the sushi version at Stingray Fusion or Red Fern’s vegan “Compost Plate.” Keep your eyes open for “hots” in small towns near Rochester, too. I recommend Henrietta Hots, Jimmy Z’s Plates and Shakes, Mark’s Texas Hots, Fairport Hots, and Westridge Hots, among many other options.

How to Cut an Onion the Right Way, According to Stanley Tucci https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/how-to-cut-an-onion-stanley-tucci/ Thu, 12 Oct 2023 22:17:38 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=1920670 The way Stanley Tucci dices an onion is so genius, I had to take notes. Here's what you need to know!

The post How to Cut an Onion the Right Way, According to Stanley Tucci appeared first on Taste of Home.

]]>
When it comes to all things cooking, I trust Stanley Tucci. The actor and Searching for Italy host has guided us through many a culinary dilemma, from the best way to use leftover risotto to perfecting a Negroni.

And, as an Italian cuisine expert, Tucci knows exactly how to handle a staple ingredient: onions. This allium is used in many Italian recipes, but not always properly handled.

That’s where Tucci, in an interview with Esquire, walks us through the best way to cut an onion. Sans tears.

Is there a “right” way to cut an onion?

Well, as Tucci says, “there are many different ways of cutting an onion.” There’s no particular right way to cut an onion, but there are better ways of cutting an onion!

How to Cut an Onion Like Stanley Tucci

While Tucci knows many will argue with his method, he stands by the onion technique taught to him by a chef friend. Here’s how he does it.

First, grab a super sharp knife, since “that’s really important,” as Tucci says. He holds the onion (on a cutting board) on its side and chops off the ends. Then, he lays the onion on a flat end and cuts right through the middle, leaving equal halves.

@esquire Next time please bring the goggles, #StanleyTucci. #onion #cutonion ♬ original sound – Esquire

From there, he peels a half and sets the peels aside. He lays the onion down, flat side down. Tucci cuts three slices across the onion horizontally. He then rotates the onion and chops “in strips.” At this point, the onion should be segmented, but still in one piece.

“And then,” he pauses, “we do this.” He dices the onion so the pieces are cut evenly. “And then,” he says, “it all falls into these nice little cubes. Ish.” Tucci repeats the process with the other half.

Other Tricks for Cutting an Onion

Check for freshness

According to Tucci, onions should be firm. “It shouldn’t be soft,” he explains. “If it’s soft,” he says, “don’t buy it, don’t use it.” If it’s too soft, it can be a sign that an onion is bad.

Wear onion goggles

Tucci uses “a very potent onion,” and assumes he’ll “probably cry.” He likes to use “goggles that [he] put[s] on that are designed specifically for cutting onions,” and says the goggles are an effective way to prevent tears. Despite usually forgetting to wear them.

Like Tucci says, there are also famous tricks like putting a piece of bread or a wooden spoon in one’s mouth. The cooks in our Test Kitchen tried out a couple popular but unusual methods of cutting an onion without crying to test their efficacy.

Use a sharp knife

While there are some TikTok videos that claim an onion can be diced without a knife, a knife is almost always necessary for the best outcome. Use a staple kitchen knife, like a chef’s knife, paring knife or a serrated knife. Just make sure it’s sharp!

If you end up cutting an onion the Tucci way, you may just have a culinary triumph on your hands!

Here's how to make pumpkin pie overnight oats for the perfect dessert-inspired breakfast!

The post How to Make Pumpkin Pie Overnight Oats appeared first on Taste of Home.

]]>
When autumn comes, it’s all about cozy sweaters, warm blankets and pumpkin spice lattes. Another fall favorite? None other than a classic pumpkin pie. If pumpkin pie is your favorite treat, this dessert-turned-breakfast is the perfect fit for you.

Overnight oats are simple to make, producing a hearty breakfast with little effort. This version harnesses all the delicious flavor of pumpkin pie with warm notes of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and ginger to produce a make-ahead breakfast that tastes just like taking a bite out of a slice of pie.

Key Ingredients in Pumpkin Pie Overnight Oats

  • Rolled oats: Oats are the most important ingredient as the base of this recipe. For best liquid absorption and best results, use rolled oats or old-fashioned oats, rather than quick or instant oats.
  • Canned pumpkin: Canned pumpkin—not pumpkin pie filling—is the best fit for this recipe. That way, you can easily control the level of sweetness in the mixture to your liking.
  • Greek yogurt: Adding a few tablespoons of Greek yogurt transforms this recipe. Not only does it add great protein, but it also makes these overnight oats that much creamier.
  • Brown sugar: Brown sugar adds just a touch of sweetness to these overnight oats. If preferred, it can be skipped altogether. You can also swap it out for other sweeteners such as maple syrup, honey or date syrup.
  • Pumpkin pie spice: Pumpkin pie spice is a mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and ginger. This is what gives pumpkin pie its great flavor, and it plays an important role in this overnight oats recipe. You can choose to make your own pumpkin pie spice or use a store-bought option from the spice aisle.

Step 2: Mix in the wet ingredients

Mix in the milk, Greek yogurt, pumpkin and vanilla until well combined.

Step 3: Divide into containers and chill

Use a measuring cup to divide and scoop the mixture into two jars. Seal the jars and place them in the fridge. Let the oats sit overnight or for at least four hours. Top with dried cranberries and walnuts or other toppings before serving, if desired.

How to Store Overnight Oats

It’s important to store overnight oats in airtight containers—such as small mason jars—in the fridge. With an airtight seal, overnight oats can last in the fridge for up to five days, making them ideal for meal prepping.

Tips for Making Pumpkin Pie Overnight Oats

Can you use pumpkin pie filling instead?

It’s best to use pure canned pumpkin rather than pumpkin pie filling for this recipe. Pumpkin pie filling is made with pumpkin, water, sugar, salt and spices. Using pumpkin pie filling will not result in the same texture and flavor as following this recipe with canned pumpkin would.

Are pumpkin pie overnight oats healthy?

Pumpkin pie overnight oats are a hearty breakfast or afternoon snack. They have great fiber thanks to the addition of oats and pumpkin, along with protein from the Greek yogurt.

What else can I add to my pumpkin pie overnight oats?

Looking for ways to make these overnight oats even better? This recipe is incredibly versatile, and you can incorporate a variety of mix-ins. Add in chia or flax seeds, flaked coconut or crushed pecans. Before eating, top the overnight oats with mini chocolate chips, maple syrup or even whipped cream.

How to Make a Skeleton Charcuterie Board

This particular recipe comes from TikTok user @ainttooproudtomeg. It’s so creative…it’s scary!

Ingredients

  • 13-ounce wheel of Brie
  • 2 ounces blueberry jam
  • 4 yogurt-covered pretzels
  • String cheese
  • 16 ounces young Manchego, sliced evenly in triangles
  • 12 ounces Italian dry salami
  • Calabrese salami (Columbus sells a pre-sliced version)
  • Castelvetrano olives
  • Chocolate-covered cranberries
  • 12 ounces cubed mild cheddar
  • 30 ounces dark purple grapes
  • 8 dried orange slices
@ainttooproudtomeg #PromotionWithColumbusBrand SAVE this post & make a @columbusmeats CHARCUTERIE SKELETON for Halloween. Full instructions below.      You can’t have a charcuterie skeleton without salami… Here I used @columbusmeats Italian Dry Salame to appropriately create the “innards” of the skeleton and their Charcuterie Tasting Board to fill out the spread with complementary cheese & charcuterie pairings so your guests can have the perfect bite!      INGREDIENTS * 13 oz brie * 2 oz blueberry jam * 4 yogurt covered pretzels * string cheese * 16 oz young manchego, sliced evenly lengthwise & height wise into triangles * 12 oz @columbusmeats Italian Dry Salame * @columbusmeats Charcuterie Tasting Board (I used the Calabrese Salame, Castelvetrano olives & chocolate covered cranberries from here) * 10 oz mild cheddar, cubed * 30 oz dark purple grapes * 8 dried orange slices     INSTRUCTIONS 1. Place brie in the freezer for 15-20 minutes to allow for easier cutting. 2. For the brie skull, cut wedges out of the sides of the bottom third of the cheese (to make a mushroom-like shape), then carefully slice the brie in half. 3. Using the top half of the brie, use a paring knife to cut out a rectangle for the mouth, a triangle for the nose and circles for both eyes. NOTE: suggest using a small round cookie cutter for the eyes. 4. Use one slice of the manchego to create 5 small square “teeth” to be placed in the mouth after step 5. 5. Dollop blueberry jam on bottom half of brie, then cover with the top half of the brie. 6. Place the manchego teeth in the mouth. 7. Once the skull is assembled, trim and perfect any edges of the skull before placing at the top of your board. NOTE: I took some of the sides off to make it narrower.   8. Place the yogurt covered pretzels under the brie skull to create a neck, then place string cheese directly under that. 9. On each side of the string cheese, layer manchego slices (alternating triangles) into a crescent shape to create the ribcage. 10. Fold the @columbusmeats Italian Dry Salame into quarters and line inside of the “manchego ribcage.” 11. Grab the @columbusmeats Charcuterie Tasting Board and line the top edges of the board with Calabrese Salame. Then, fill a ramekin with Castelvetrano olives and another ramekin with chocolate cranberries and place on each side of the board. 12. Decorate the rest of the board with cheddar cubes, grapes and dried oranges. Enjoy!     #AintTooProudToCheese #charcuterieboard #halloweenfood ♬ original sound – Meg Quinn

Directions

Step 1: Shape the skull

Start by shaping your skull out of the round piece of Brie. Cut small wedges out of the side so your Brie resembles a mushroom. Make round holes for the eyes, a triangle hole for the nose and a square hole for the mouth. Cut the Brie horizontally in the middle to create a top and bottom layer. Finish by rounding out the edges to perfect your skull.

Step 2: Add blueberry jam

Separate your top and bottom Brie layers and spread the blueberry jam.

Step 3: Cut out teeth

Cut a small piece of Manchego cheese into squares and use them to create teeth in the mouth of the skull.

Step 4: Build the skeleton

Begin to build your skeleton. Place the skull at the top of your board and layer the yogurt-covered pretzels, standing up, directly under the skull to create a neck. Layer the string cheese under the pretzels to create a spine. To create the rib cage, layer the Manchego triangles into a crescent shape and place on either side of the string cheese. Make sure to alternate the triangles.

Step 5: Fold in the meats and add accoutrements

Fold your Italian dry salami into quarters and place between the Manchego and string cheese. Line the top of the board with sliced Calabrese salami. Fill two ramekins, one with olives and the other with cranberries. Place ramekins on either side of the board.

Step 6: Fill out the rest of the board

Decorate the rest of the board with the cubed cheese, grapes and orange slices.

Tips For Making Skeleton Charcuterie

Overhead Skeleton Charcuterie Board Meg Quinn For Toh

These tips come from Meg Quinn, the creator of the board, so you know they’re perfect for the job:

  • Give your Brie the chills: Get your Brie nice and cold in the freezer before attempting to cut it into the shape of a skull.
  • Use the right tools: A sharp paring knife and small cookie cutter will help you craft your brie into a spooky skeleton.
  • Fold picture-perfect salami: Fold the salami into quarters and place it strategically inside the skeleton to add depth and visual interest.
  • Play with Halloween colors: Incorporate produce and accoutrements in Halloween colors like oranges, greens and purples to play up the theme.
  • Personalize with a spooky touch: Customize the board with your favorite cheeses and additional spooky elements to suit your taste.

Once you’ve perfected the skeleton, don’t forget to try these other amazing charcuterie boards for every season.

What better way to celebrate love than with unforgettable wedding food?

You’ve heard of engagement chicken and marry me chicken. The next recipe to make: wedding salad! More specifically, a viral wedding Caesar salad courtesy of popular TikTok salad creator The Salad Lab.

Here’s how to make the wedding salad that people can’t get enough of.

What is wedding Caesar salad?

It’s exactly what it sounds like: a Caesar salad fit for a wedding. “My son’s getting married next month!” @thesaladlab says cheerfully at the start of her viral TikTok video. Because Caesar salad is the only salad her son likes, she decided to make a special wedding Caesar salad in honor of the event. Adorable!

Wedding Caesar Salad Recipe

This wedding-style Caesar salad is finished with a sprinkling of edible flowers. Look for them in the packaged fresh herb section of your grocery store. The Salad Lab doesn’t provide an exact recipe, but we’ve included approximate measurements below.

@thesaladlab Wedding Style Caesar Salad with Edible Flowers #saladsoftiktok #thesaladlab #weddingsalad #caesar #yum #palomaresmagic ♬ Until I Found You – Stephen Sanchez

Ingredients

  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 anchovies
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Little Gem lettuce
  • 1 cup stale bread, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme, or to taste
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Parmesan, to taste
  • 3-4 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • Edible flowers

Directions

Step 1: Create a Caesar dressing

Emulsify the egg yolks, anchovies, cloves of crushed garlic, teaspoons of Dijon mustard, olive oil, lemon juice and salt and pepper using an immersion blender. You’re looking for a thick, creamy dressing here. (If you need a product recommendation, it looks like The Salad Lab uses this cordless Cuisinart hand blender.)

Pour the dressing into the bottom of a serving bowl.

Step 2: Wash the lettuce

Soak lettuce in cold water to make it “extra crunchy and crisp.” The Salad Lab uses Little Gem lettuce but romaine or Bibb lettuce should work too. Transfer to salad bowl.

Step 3: Bake homemade croutons

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Place bread cubes in a bowl and lightly sprinkle with thyme. Toss the bread in a drizzle of olive oil and flaky sea salt. Place onto a baking sheet covered with parchment paper and pop in the oven for around 10 minutes.

Let cool, then add the croutons to your salad.

Step 4: Top the salad and toss to serve

Now add some fresh Parmesan on the salad and toss all the ingredients together. Yum! Add more Parmesan, plus bacon and edible flowers, to finish this wedding salad.

Tips for Making Wedding Salad

Make this salad vegetarian

If you’re a vegetarian (or don’t like anchovies), we have an alternative. Omit the fish and replace them with capers or crumbled seaweed snacks instead. It will be just as tasty. If you do add the crumbled seaweed, though, the Salad Lab suggests adding extra salt to the recipe.

Add truffle oil to the dressing

If you want to boost the dressing’s flavor, try adding truffle oil.

Use a food processor instead of an immersion blender

Since not everyone has an immersion blender, a regular blender or a food processor will do the trick.

Coddle the eggs

The Salad Lab suggests coddling the eggs by putting them in boiling water for one minute prior to cracking them.

While the Gilmore girls aren’t exactly known for spending a lot of time in the kitchen, these Gilmore Girls coffee cake cookies from Mallory Jones Oniki still give major Lorelai and Rory vibes. It’s clear why they were the inspiration for the recipe!

For starters, we know these Stars Hollow natives would approve of the layers of sweet indulgence these cookies offer (cinnamon cookies are topped with streusel and ribbons of icing). They are perfect dunking cookies with the mom-and-daughter duo’s signature drink—coffee, coffee, coffee! And they absolutely smell like an East Coast fall while baking. We think even Emily Gilmore might allow these to be served for dessert at a Friday night dinner. Or at the very least, at a tailgate party, provided they were sitting on doily-lined plates. Ready to whip up a batch of your own? We’ve got the goods below!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2-1/2 cups flour

Streusel topping:

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Icing:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Splash of vanilla

Directions

Overhead Gilmore Girls Cookies Mackenzie Schieck for TOH

Step 1: Make the dough

Preheat the oven to 350°F, then combine butter, oil and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl. Mix until smooth and fluffy, then add the egg and vanilla, and mix again. Add the remaining ingredients and mix until combined.

Step 2: Make the streusel

Combine butter, brown sugar, 1/3 cup of the flour, cinnamon and salt in a bowl and mix with a fork, pastry cutter or your hand. The mixture should stick together, but also crumble when you run it through your fingers. If the dough is still a bit sticky, add one tablespoon of flour at a time until you get a crumbly consistency.

Step 3: Prep cookies on baking sheet

Using a large cookie scoop, scoop 12 balls of dough onto a lined baking sheet. (You can make smaller scoops for more cookies if you like.) Make a good-sized indent on the top of each ball of dough with the back of your cookie scoop, sprinkling a couple tablespoons of the streusel inside. Bake the cookies at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes.

Step 4: Make the icing

While the cookies are baking, combine the powdered sugar, milk and vanilla in a small bowl and whisk until it’s smooth and drips easily from a spoon. Once the cookies have cooled slightly, drizzle on lots of icing.

Here’s What I Thought

Gilmore Girls Cookies Mackenzie Schieck for TOH

First thing that popped into my head when I took a bite: These cookies taste exactly like coffee cake. Like, exactly. The two tablespoons of cinnamon in the dough is working some serious magic, the streusel adds the perfect little crunch, and the icing drizzles are absolutely the cherry on top of an already-delicious cookie. I would definitely recommend—actually, I’m going to go so far as to insist—that you whip up a batch for a Gilmore Girls binge session. It’s a truly delightful way to immerse yourself in the cozy season. And of you need more Stars Hollow-inspired recipes, there’s a whole cookbook based on the TV show.

It’s finally fall! The season of curling up with a blanket, lighting some candles, having a Harry Potter marathon or revisiting your favorite Nora Ephron rom-com. And what’s a better way to enjoy these cozy fall evenings than with a warm pasta dish?

Fall pastas blend bright seasonal produce into cheesy, saucy noodle dishes you can let simmer on the stove all day or fix in a pinch. In between other must-try fall recipes and slow-cooker soups, you’re definitely going to want to add pumpkin alla vodka to your autumnal menu planning.

What is pumpkin alla vodka?

While we love a good penne alla vodka, we might just have to swap it for the season in favor of pumpkin alla vodka. According to TikTok creator Jamie Milne, this “perfect fall dish” takes spicy vodka pasta and applies a pumpkin twist. Think of it like your favorite vodka sauce but sweetened with pumpkin puree and a dash of ground nutmeg.

“My toxic trait is that when it comes September 1st,” Jamie says in her viral TikTok, “I’m already making pumpkin-inspired recipes.” And with a dish that looks like this, we can’t blame her!

How to Make Pumpkin Alla Vodka

This recipe is a straightforward one that’s ideal for busy weeknights. It serves up to four people, so invite some of your fall-obsessed besties over and enjoy!

@everything_delish fall recipes 🤝 pumpkin – you need to try my pumpkin alla vodka recipe! Pumpkin Alla Vodka Serves 4 Ingredients 1/4 cup Vodka 1 tsp nutmeg 1 package pasta 1 cup pumpkin puree 2 tbsp olive oil 1 garlic clove, minced 1 tsp chili flakes 1 cup heavy cream or milk 1 cup parmesan cheese 2 tbsp tomato paste 1 white onion, diced salt & pepper #fallrecipe #pumpkinallavodka #pastadish #pumpkinpasta #fallcooking #seasonalrecipe #fallflavors #pumpkinrecipe #italianrecipe #comfortfood #homemadepasta #fallvibes #foodvideo #cookingtutorial #tiktokrecipe #easyrecipe #deliciousdishes #foodporn #foodlover #foodvideo #pumpkinseason #fallfavorites #tiktokchef #foodgasm #foodinspiration #pumpkinspice #italianfood #pasta ♬ Boogie Shoes – KC & The Sunshine Band

Ingredients

  • 1 package penne pasta (or other tubular pasta shape)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup vodka
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese

Directions

Step 1: Prepare pasta

First, the star of the recipe—the pasta. Fill a large pot with water (and don’t forget to salt the pasta water!), bring it to a boil, add pasta and cook until al dente. Strain while saving a cup of the leftover pasta water, and put the pasta to the side.

Step 2: Create the pumpkin sauce

Now, the sauce. While the pasta cooks, add olive oil, diced white onion, garlic and chili flakes to a large skillet on medium heat. Saute until the onion is glassy and tender. Then, add in the tomato paste and stir thoroughly. The result should be an orange mash that sticks together.

Next up, pour in the 1/4 cup of vodka and let it sizzle before introducing that pumpkin puree in. The pumpkin puree “makes the pasta sauce so creamy and nutty,” Jamie explains. Mix and pour in that milk or heavy cream. Stir around until a thick orange sauce comes together.

Step 3: Stir in the pasta

Sprinkle in some salt, pepper and nutmeg to your liking. From there, you can add in the cooked pasta and pour in that extra pasta water before thoroughly mixing around in the sauce.

Step 4: Sprinkle Parmesan cheese and serve

Remove from the stove, place in a pasta bowl and sprinkle some Parmesan cheese on top. Add any of your favorite fall spices for good measure. Voila, you’ve got a pasta that will have you set for the season.

Even if stores are piled with adorable Halloween decorations right now, we can’t deny that a fun Halloween craft will get us in the spooky spirit. (Like carving pumpkins, of course!) Thanks to some clever TikTok creators, we’ve found the ultimate fall craft to make your house a little more… ghostly. Using cheesecloth, glue and a few simple supplies, you can make a cheesecloth ghost that can be decorated and shaped however you want, perfect for any corner of your haunted house! Here’s how to make them.

How to Make a Cheesecloth Ghost, Step by Step

@lifewithlainee Cheesecloth ghosts! A fun and easy Halloween diy you can do with your kids! 👻🎃 **Supplies are linked in my Amazon Storefront (in my bio) under “Fall/Halloween” (pumpkin came from Target dollar section) #cheeseclothghost #halloweendiy #halloweendecor #easyhalloweendecor #halloweenwithkids #halloweencraft #halloweenfun #asmrsounds #asmrcrafting #asmrhalloween ♬ 할로윈 왈츠(Halloween Waltz) – 달빛 블루스

Tools You’ll Need

  • Pipe cleaners
  • Mason jar
  • Foam balls (or small balloons, blown up)
  • Cheesecloths
  • Liquid starch like Sta-Flo
  • Container or bowl
  • Hot glue
  • Decorations for ghosts (eyeballs, pumpkins, fairy lights, etc.)

Directions

Step 1: Prep the ghost structure

Before even working with the cheesecloth, make sure your structure for shaping the ghost is ready for you to place a wet cheesecloth on top of. To do so, curl the pipe cleaners around the bare lip of a mason jar, then hold them in place with a Mason jar ring. Twist the pipe cleaners to a shape you want for your ghost. (Think ghost arms!) Then place your foam ball or small balloon in the center of the mason jar for the head.

Some creators also use plastic wrap at this step. Laying down a sheet or two of plastic wrap on top of your ghost structure may make it easier to shape and mold the wet cheesecloth in step 3.

Step 2: Cut your cheesecloth

Before messing with the liquid starch, test out the size of your cheesecloth on the ghost structure. Cut the cheesecloth to size for the perfect ghost.

Step 3: Shape the ghost

When you’re done imagining what you want your ghoul to look like, pour some liquid starch in a bowl. Dip the cheesecloth into the liquid and shape it on your ghost structure.

Step 4: Let dry

Once your ghost is shaped perfectly, leave the cheesecloth on the structure to completely dry. (This step may take a day or two.) Then remove carefully—and start decorating!

Step 5: Decorate the ghost

Hot glue on eyes or a witch hat, place a pumpkin in its arms, string multiple ghosts together to hang around your house or even fill a cheesecloth ghost with fairy lights for a spooky effect at night!

Tips for Making a Cheesecloth Ghost

What if I can’t find liquid starch?

If you can’t find liquid starch, other TikTok creators say using Mod Podge or some watered down glue can also work.

How do I make smaller ghosts?

Secure a smaller foam ball on the top of an empty water bottle and make tiny cheesecloth ghosts—maybe to string along the bannister of your stairs?

Can I make a spooky cheesecloth ghost?

Instead of making smaller, cartoon-like ghosts, you could make human-like ghost structures with your cheesecloth instead. To do so, pick up a styrofoam mannequin head and a longer sheet of cheesecloth. Drape the cheesecloth over the head and be sure to smooth the creases so you can have that head structure at the top, with a spooky cheesecloth draping down below.

Now that it’s officially fall, cardigan weather and cozy movie marathons have entered the chat. And, the arrival of autumn also marks the start of another classic season we look forward to all year: pumpkin spice season.

If you ran to Starbucks when its fall menu dropped (which, same), then we have a recipe for you. Gear up for a pastry favorite with a spiced autumn twist. Pumpkin spice cinnamon rolls!

Just imagine a fall morning with a pumpkin spice latte and pumpkin spice cinnamon roll in hand.

What are pumpkin spice cinnamon rolls?

Think of classic cinnamon rolls with a dash of pumpkin pie spice and everything nice. These pumpkin spice cinnamon rolls take that classic and infuse them with a delectable fall flavor thanks to pumpkin puree and a mouthwatering maple cream cheese frosting. Yum!

How to Make Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Rolls

This recipe comes from Ambitious Kitchen and was tested by TikTok creator Grace Kim. And apparently, a successful go, as the video has over a million views and nearly 185,000 likes. Here’s how to recreate the hit cinnamon roll recipe.

@grasiankim pumpkin spice cinammon rolls w/maple cream cheese frosting SO GOOD #cinnamonroll #pumpkincinnamonrolls #falldesserts #autumnvibes #cinnamon #cinnamonrolls ♬ Autumn In New York – Frank Sinatra

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2-1/4 teaspoons quick rise yeast (1/4-ounce package yeast)
  • 3/4 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

Filling:

  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1-1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter

Frosting:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • Pinch of salt

Directions

Step 1: Combine warm milk, sugar and yeast

Pour milk (Ambitious Kitchen notes you can use 2%, almond or whole for this recipe) into a measuring cup. Pop into the microwave for 45 seconds until it reaches 110°F. Be careful not to heat the milk over 115°, otherwise it can kill the yeast, which stops the rolls from rising. Add in yeast and sugar.

Grace leaves it to activate for 10 minutes before transferring to a mixing bowl.

Step 2: Make the dough

Add the pumpkin (which Grace calls “the star of the show), melted butter and egg (Ambitious Kitchen advises that the egg should be room temperature, not cold). Mix thoroughly; the ingredients should take on a cream-like consistency. Toss in flour, pumpkin pie spice and salt before stirring with a wooden spoon to create the dough.

Step 3: Knead dough and proof

Take the dough and knead it with your hands on a flour-covered surface or position the dough on the dough hook of a stand mixer—Grace uses a Kitchen Aid mixer—for 8-10 minutes “until it becomes a really smooth ball.” If you’re using your hands and not sure if your dough is kneaded enough, here’s how to tell.

Once the dough is properly kneaded, grease a large bowl with olive oil or cooking spray and move the dough into it. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and a warm towel (this allows the dough to rise). Leave it for an hour, or less, if you notice the dough has doubled in size. Grace leaves it in the microwave off for a convenient location that may be warmer than a kitchen counter.

Step 4: Roll out the dough

Sprinkle flour on a flat surface. Take that dough out of the bowl and use a rolling pin to roll it out. The result should be a 16×14-inch rectangle of dough.

Step 5: Add the cinnamon roll filling

Spread softened butter evenly across the dough. Then grab a small bowl and mix brown sugar and cinnamon together to create a spicy filling. Rub it into the butter on top of the dough.

Step 6: Roll up dough

Begin from smaller side of the dough. Grace advises “tuck[ing] it under” while rolling to make sure there’s no space in between. Depending on the dough, you may have to cut around an inch of dough off the end. Use a serrated knife to cut 1 inch portions of dough to come out to 12 rolls.

For evenly sized rolls, gently mark the dough with a knife before cutting.

Step 7: Proof again

Transfer rolls to a 13×9-inch pan lined with parchment paper. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and a warm towel to let the rolls proof again for around half an hour. Preheat the oven to 350°.

Step 8: Bake the cinnamon rolls

Remove the wrap and towel and pop the rolls into the oven for 20 to 25 minutes. You want the rolls to be “slightly golden brown” around the edges. Let them cool for 10 minutes before adding the frosting.

Step 9: Whip up the frosting

Last but definitely not least, the frosting. Add cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, maple syrup and salt into a bowl and mix with an electric mixer until smooth. Spread onto rolls and breakfast is served!

Now that it’s October, we finally have a reason to whip up all of our fall favorites. (I mean, we went to pick up a PSL when the Starbucks fall menu dropped in August, but still). And there are two things that perfectly define fall—pumpkins and a warm, cozy meal. Luckily, we’ve come across a TikTok sensation that combines them both: pizza pumpkins!

Trust us when we say this pumpkin-shaped dish will be a major hit at any fall potluck. Here’s how to make ’em.

What are pumpkin pizza bombs?

The pizza pumpkins are pizza bombs shaped like pumpkins. Full of marinara, mozzarella and pepperoni, pizza pumpkins are the perfect appetizer. Especially for fall, thanks to their adorable autumn-themed shape! Plus, who doesn’t adore a gooey pizza cheese pull? Bring a tray to a Halloween party, Friendsgiving, Thanksgiving or any fall gathering, really.

How to Make Pizza Pumpkins

This recipe for pizza pumpkins comes to us courtesy of chef and TikTok creator Genevieve LaMonaca, aka @chefgenevieve. Genevieve walks us through how to create her popular kid-friendly pumpkin-shaped pizza bombs, so you can make them, too:

@chefgenevieve Pumpkin Pizza Bombs🍕🎃 Follow for 30 Halloween inspired recipes Serves 6 Ingredients: 1 can pizza dough sheet (I used Pillsbury) 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese 1/2 cup chopped ham 1/2 cup chopped pepperoni 1/8 cup sliced black olives (optional) 1/4 cup melted Butter 2 cups marinara sauce 1 baby pumpkin (if making pumpkin bowl) In a bowl, combine mozzarella, ham, peperoni, and optional sliced olives. Mix together and set aside Roll out a sheet of pizza dough Cut into 6 portions. Roll each portion into a ball and flatten . Scoop your filling into the center. Pull up the sides of your dough and pinch at the top creating a tight seal. Make sure there are no holes or the cheese will seep through. Cut 3 pieces of butchers twine. Lay it down in a star shape then place your pizza bomb in the center, seam side down. Bring up your twine and double knot at the top. Snip off any excess twine then place your pizza bombs on a parchment lined baking sheet. Brush on some butter and bake in 400°F oven for 16 minutes. Carve a baby pumpkin and add in a bowl to hold the sauce. Once pizza bombs are slightly cooled, snip off the twine and discard. Use twisted pretzels cut in half for the stems. If makingahead of time, simply reheat in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes. Enjoy #halloweenfood #halloweeninspo ♬ Fall October Halloween horror classic(177261) – rareNote

Ingredients

Directions

Step 1: Preheat oven and prep ingredients

Start by preheating your oven to 400°F. Then, add mozzarella, ham, pepperoni and olives (if using) in a bowl and mix. Place the bowl to the side for now.

Step 2: Roll out pizza dough

Next, roll out that sheet of Pillsbury pizza dough with a rolling pin or your hands and slice the dough into 6 to 8 pieces. Do this by rolling each portion into a ball and flattening, or skip the hassle and use a round biscuit cutter to separate the dough.

Step 3: Assemble the pizza bombs

Now, place a dollop of marinara sauce and a spoonful of toppings into the center of the flattened dough. Then, pinch the sides of your dough to the top so the ingredients are completely sealed. You’ll need some kitchen twine to wrap up your pizza pumpkins into 6-8 sections. Genevieve advises doing this by placing three pieces of twine in a star shape, seam side down, bringing it up and double knotting it. Snip off any extra twine.

Step 4: Butter and bake the bites

Use a brush to apply some butter to the bites before popping them in the oven on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for 13-16 minutes.

Step 5: Remove twine

Once the bites are crispy and brown, remove all the twine. For a cute touch, use halved pretzel sticks to add some stems to these pumpkin bites. And voila! The adorable bites are ready to steal the show at your next fall party.

Next Up: Try this pumpkin-shaped baked Brie.

Stanley Tucci’s Risotto Cakes May Be Our Favorite Thing Ever https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/stanley-tucci-risotto-cakes/ Thu, 05 Oct 2023 11:33:40 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=1918691 Only Stanley Tucci can take leftover risotto and turn it into a culinary masterpiece.

The post Stanley Tucci’s Risotto Cakes May Be Our Favorite Thing Ever appeared first on Taste of Home.

]]>
Stanley Tucci has become a culinary sensation. And, rightfully so. From Tucci’s favorite sandwich and all kinds of classic Italian dishes he samples while traveling across Italy, the award-winning icon guides us through a world of food.

If you were heartbroken like I was when Searching For Italy was canceled—streaming it on Max is amazing, but I miss the new episodes—and have already gotten through his cookbooks (shoutout to The Tucci Table), here’s an effective alternative: Tucci’s TikTok.

Time and again, the star indulges us with gems of Italian cuisine on social media. Unsurprisingly, these endearing—and often, viral—videos are genius. This brilliance includes Tucci’s tips for mastering risotto cakes, which, weeks later, we are still obsessed with. I mean, Stanley Tucci made them, so how can we not be?

What is a risotto cake made of?

Risotto cakes are made with leftover risotto. As Tucci says, “I made risotto the other night, which I didn’t eat. So I turned it into risotto cakes.” Any way to savor more risotto is a recipe that has my attention.

Is it OK to eat leftover risotto?

Yes, it’s OK to eat leftover risotto. Especially when it can be used to create another mouthwatering recipe like this one! Risotto can be stored for as long as 5 days in the refrigerator, unless it’s a meat risotto, which should only stick around for 3 days.

How to Make Stanley Tucci’s Risotto Cakes

@stanley.tucciRisotto cakes♬ original sound – Stanley Tucci

Ingredients

  • Leftover risotto
  • 2 eggs
  • Cheese
  • Salt
  • Panko bread crumbs
  • Fresh bread crumbs
  • Regular olive oil (Tucci says not to use extra virgin olive oil)
  • Vegetable oil

Directions

Tucci doesn’t give us any exact measurements when it comes to making this recipe. However, he does walk us through his process.

“What I’ve done,” he begins before motioning to the contents. “This is what it looks like,” he says as he raises a glass bowl full of the risotto mixture to the camera. The actor explains that he put panko bread crumbs into the eggs and mixed them prior to throwing in “a little extra cheese, a little extra salt,” (estimate what “a little” means to your liking). He then mixes that into homemade bread crumbs to create the ultimate bread crumb mixture.

That’s right, Tucci mixes panko and homemade bread crumbs. This concoction is met with Tucci’s “mmm, mmm, mmm” noise of approval. He rolls the risotto into mini cakes and coats them with the bread crumb mixture. Then he cooks them in regular olive oil (not extra virgin olive oil) and vegetable oil in a large pan.

The final result? Crisp, golden brown, risotto cakes that are “really, really, really good.” We believe it!

What goes with risotto cakes?

If you want to relish these risotto cakes the Tucci way, grab a drink. The actor says the cakes are “what [he’s] going to have with a cocktail.” For a full Stanley Tucci-approved snack, take him up on his recommendation for a perfect Negroni.

To make a full meal with risotto cakes, roast some of your favorite vegetables or a pan-fry the protein of your choice and call it a day. Better yet, a Stanley Tucci-approved day, which is bound to be award-winning.

This Popular Air Fryer Is Being Recalled—Here’s What We Know https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/secura-air-fryer-recall/ Tue, 03 Oct 2023 22:02:04 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=1920184 The air fryers were sold mostly on Amazon.

The post This Popular Air Fryer Is Being Recalled—Here’s What We Know appeared first on Taste of Home.

]]>
It’s no secret that we’re in the midst of an air fryer craze. According to CNBC, almost 60% of U.S. households have air fryers. And, hey, we’re not fighting it. The countertop convection ovens make full-blown air-fryer dinners in a matter of minutes.

However, that doesn’t mean air fryers always work perfectly. Like all appliances, air fryers can malfunction. And if your air fryer happens to be a certain Secura air fryer, you may have experienced this firsthand. So far there have been nine reports of Secura air fryers catching fire, burning and smoking. Yikes—that’s definitely cause for a recall.

What air fryers are being recalled?

Secura Air Fryer Saf 53d Courtesy Cpsc

This Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recall affects Secura air fryers, specifically certain black air fryers with silver accents. There’s a faulty wire connection in the air fryer that can overheat, causing fire and burn hazards.

How do I know if I have an affected air fryer?

Secura Air Fryer Saf 53 Courtesy Cpsc

This recall affects 6,400 air fryers with specific model numbers and date codes. Each of these model numbers and four-digit date codes are located on silver labels at the bottom of each unit. The following model numbers and date codes are included in this recall:

  • SAF-53D (TXG-DT16E), 1901
  • SAF-53 (TXG-DS16), 1903 or 1904

The 12″ high air fryers were sold mostly on Amazon.com in the U.S. between May 2019 and October 2020. (In addition, about 680 affected air fryers were sold in Canada.) Prices ranged from $48 to $90.

What do I do next?

If you suspect you have an impacted air fryer, stop using it immediately. Then contact Secura for a $45 Amazon gift card or free replacement air fryer.

To receive either a refund or a replacement, consumers need to provide contact information and submit photos of the recalled unit with its power cord cut off. Additionally, consumers should include information about the product’s date code on the bottom of the air fryer. Receipts are not necessary.

For any further questions, call Secura at 888-792-2360 between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT weekdays or visit Secura’s website for more information.

How much do we love Mean Girls? The limit does not exist.

It’s hard to believe that one of the most beloved and iconic 2000s flicks is approaching its 20th anniversary. I mean, that’s just like, so grool.

While we’re planning to wear pink for the celebration, Coffee mate has gifted us a caffeinated way to ring in the occasion. (No, it’s not a coffee cake filled with rainbows and smiles that everyone would eat and be happy). It’s a limited edition Mean Girls coffee creamer. Shut up. Shut. Up! We’ve got the 411 and all the hot gossip on this, fittingly, pink treat.

What is Mean Girls coffee creamer?

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Coffee mate (@coffeemate)

This Mean Girls coffee creamer is inspired by the classic and endlessly quotable film. To make it even more iconic, it’s also the first ever pink coffee creamer and has a sweet pink frosting flavor. Talk about adding a sugar rush to your afternoon pick-me-up!

According to Coffee mate, the creamer gives fans a chance to add splashes of, like, really pretty, pink to any type of coffee. In other words, it’s not a regular coffee creamer, it’s a cool coffee creamer.

What does Mean Girls creamer taste like?

I had the chance to taste test this creamer, and it can be summed up in one word: pink. Not just because of its bubblegum hue, but because this coffee creamer smells and tastes like pink, too. And by pink, I mean it really does taste like a liquified, sugary piece of cake and my sweet tooth isn’t mad about it. Take that pink everything as you’d like, but to reference one of the most quotable lines of the film, it’s pretty fetch fitting.

When is the creamer in stores?

Unfortunately, this coffee creamer can’t sit with us just yet. It won’t be rolling onto grocery store shelves nationwide until January 2024. Although, that does mean we can look forward to starting the new year off with some pink.

Once its available, fans will be able to pick up 32-ounce bottles for $4.69. Until then, we’ll be rewatching the Plastics rule the school and making recipes inspired by vintage movies.

This Is the Infamous S’mores Dip That Took Over the Internet Last Fall https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/smores-dip/ Fri, 29 Sep 2023 23:28:07 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=1918540 Grab a box of graham crackers, stat!

The post This Is the Infamous S’mores Dip That Took Over the Internet Last Fall appeared first on Taste of Home.

]]>
Of all the things to love about s’mores, the fact that they can be enjoyed all year long certainly makes the list. Whether around the fire pit in summer, or as a warm, gooey treat on fall and winter nights, s’mores hit the spot no matter the season.

While a typical s’more—graham crackers with marshmallows and chocolate in between—is a timeless classic, there are plenty of new ways to make s’mores too. Some of which are innovative and extraordinarily tasty in a single bite.

Our love for this simple trio of ingredients is why we’re bringing back a 2022 viral s’mores sensation that, if you missed out on last year, you need to try immediately. Once we get into this dip, you’ll see why this s’mores variation was, and remains, so popular.

Not only is this dip delicious, it’s also simple and straightforward to make. Here’s how you can create s’mores dip:

Ingredients

  • Chocolate bars
  • Marshmallows
  • Graham crackers, for dipping

Directions

Step 1: Prep the chocolate

Grab a glass baking dish or aluminum pan and fill the bottom with chocolate. The amount can be to your liking—especially if you’re a chocolate lover who wants to pack as much in there as possible—just make sure there’s enough room for the marshmallows.

Step 2: Top with marshmallows

Then, fill the pan with a bag of marshmallows—if you want a recommendation, this is our pick for the best marshmallows. Transfer to an oven set at 350°F for around five minutes, or until those marshmallows are golden brown and melting into the chocolate. Dig in with a spoon or grab a box of graham crackers for dipping.

Tips for Making S’mores Dip

So how does one perfect this dessert dip? We’ve got some tips to help you out when it comes to making this s’mores delight.

Can you reheat s’mores dip?

Yes! You can reheat s’mores dip. Just pop it into the oven at 350° for five minutes and it’s as gooey and good to go as ever.

Can you make s’mores dip in the microwave?

You can make s’mores dip in the microwave to speed up the process. Place some chocolate and marshmallows in a bowl or dish and put the microwave on high for 15 to 30 seconds.

Another s’mores dip alternative? Try using the air fryer at 350° for around five minutes too.

Is there a Peeps s’mores dip recipe?

If you want to make this s’mores dip into an adorable concoction, you can also create a Peeps s’mores dip recipe! It’s a smaller, simpler, version of the original s’mores dip, but no less delicious. And with Halloween coming up, we recommend opening a pack of Halloween peeps to get you started.

What’s a Chamoy Pickle, and How Do You Make Them? https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/chamoy-pickle/ https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/chamoy-pickle/#respond Thu, 28 Sep 2023 20:34:34 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=1917976 What's sweet, sour, spicy and red all over? A chamoy pickle, the latest viral recipe taking over TikTok.

The post What’s a Chamoy Pickle, and How Do You Make Them? appeared first on Taste of Home.

]]>
If you’ve spent any time on TikTok or social media lately, you’ve probably seen a chamoy pickle at least once (along with these other viral TikTok recipes). Bright, candy apple red and usually topped with a bizarre array of candies, sweets, and savory snacks, this recipe is the latest food sensation that everyone seems to be making.

While you can buy a chamoy pickle kit online complete with all the fixings, you can also make homemade chamoy pickles. All you need is a trip to your local Mexican grocery store and a little time. Intrigued? Keep reading for the step-by-step recipe.

Can’t get enough pickles? Try these other recipes for pickle lovers.

What is a chamoy pickle?

A chamoy pickle is a dill pickle that has been soaked in a mixture of chamoy, sweet and sour candy powders, and Tajin (a Mexican seasoning made with chili peppers, lime and salt). When soaked in chamoy, dill pickles turn a shockingly vibrant red hue and absorb all the diverse flavors in the sauce. They’re salty, sweet, fruity, spicy and sour all at the same time.

If you enjoy a pickle spear with your spicy bloody mary, then chamoy pickles will be right up your alley. They have a very similar vibe but with a slightly fruity undertone.

And for those unfamiliar with chamoy, it is a traditional Mexican sauce made from dried fruits and chili peppers. It has a unique fruity yet savory flavor with varying amounts of heat. For lack of a better word, it’s “swicy” and is often enjoyed with fresh fruit and vegetables or stirred into drinks.

How to Make a Chamoy Pickle

Before getting started, you’ll want to stock up on your favorite pickle brand. This recipe for chamoy pickles comes from TikTok creator @amarisvee and yields six to eight servings.

Step 1: Prep the pickles

Remove the pickles from their jar and pierce them with a fork several times on all sides. Then, add them to a wide-mouth Mason jar with a lid and pour in the pickle juice.

Step 2: Combine

Add the chamoy sauce to the pickles, and then sprinkle in the Tajin, candy powders and hot sauce.

Editor’s Tip: Make sure the pickles are completely submerged in the liquid (it’s a common pickle mistake). If they’re not fully covered, you can add extra pickle juice and/or chamoy to fill the jar as needed.

Step 3: Shake and chill

Tightly seal the jar with the lid and then shake to combine the ingredients. Place the pickles in the refrigerator and let them marinate for seven days.

Step 4: Enjoy

Remove the pickles from the jar and enjoy as desired.

How to Serve Chamoy Pickles

While you can eat a chamoy pickle straight from the jar (like these other vintage pickle recipes), the best and most fun part about these unique red pickles is to add an array of toppings to them. Since chamoy pickles are very salty with subtle hints of fruitiness and spice, they benefit greatly from toppings to balance the flavors and add different textures to every bite.

Here are a few of the most popular toppings for chamoy pickles:

  • Flamin’ Hot Cheetos
  • Lucas candy powders
  • Lucas Salsagheti candy
  • Lucas Gusano candy liquid
  • Other chewy, sour fruit candies such as Gushers

Tips for Making the Perfect Poached Eggs

Styled Gordon Ramsay Poached Eggs Lauren Habermehl For Toh

While poached eggs seem simple, they can be finicky to get right. There’s a rhyme and reason to every ingredient and every step Gordon follows in his method to produce perfect poached eggs every time.

  • Gentle Boil: When poaching eggs, a gentle boil is best (ditto for boiled scrambled eggs). Once the eggs are in the water, you’ll want to keep them undisturbed. A rolling boil would inhibit the whites from enveloping the yolks and cause a misshapen appearance.
  • Vinegar: If you’re a beginner to poaching eggs, vinegar helps strengthen the egg whites, so the egg holds its shape better once cooked. The same logic applies to hard-boiled eggs.
  • Salt: Aside from flavoring the eggs, the salt increases the density of the water just enough to allow the poached egg to rise to the surface once it is perfectly cooked.
  • Stirring the Water: Using a whisk (make sure it’s the right type of whisk for the job) to create a swirling whirlpool in the boiling water helps the white perfectly encase the delicate yolk as the egg poaches.
  • Using a Bowl: Cracking the eggs into a small bowl allows the eggs to be lowered into the water slowly and gently. If you add the eggs too quickly, the egg whites will not properly wrap around the yolk and achieve their rounded shape.

So technically, you do have to bake the cookie crust (and cute li’l toppers) for this no-bake Halloween cheesecake recipe, but we’re using premade Pillsbury pumpkin sugar cookie dough. And the filling is no-bake, which is the most important part, so we’re officially deeming that “close enough.”

Plus, it looks absolutely delicious!

Our mouths were watering watching @thesqueakymixer create this adorable dessert, and we’re pretty sure the most difficult part of the recipe will be waiting for the cheesecake to set.

No-Bake Halloween Cheesecake Recipe

Ingredients

Tiktok No Bake Halloween Cheesecake ingredients

Cheesecake:

  • 2 packages Pillsbury pumpkin sugar cookies
  • 1-1/4 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 24 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
  • 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Whipped cream:

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1: Bake cookie crust

Tiktok No Bake Halloween Cheesecake cookie crust in a cake pan surrounded by other ingredients

Preheat oven to 350°F and line a lightly-greased 9-inch springform pan with Pillsbury sugar cookies. You can slice some in half or in quarters to fill any gaps. Bake until the crust is golden brown on the edges, about 12 minutes. Set aside.

Step 2: Bake cookies for decoration

Bake any remaining cookies according to package directions. Set aside.

Step 3: Prepare cheesecake filling

In a medium bowl, whip 1-1/4 cup of the heavy cream until thickened, about 4-5 minutes. Set aside. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. (If you’re using a stand mixer, the paddle attachment works best.) Add in confectioners’ sugar, granulated sugar, sour cream, lemon juice and vanilla, then continue to beat until combined. Use a silicone spatula to fold in the whipped cream until combined–the whipped cream should be fully incorporated, but be careful not to overmix.

Step 4: Assemble cheesecake

Pour the cheesecake filling into the prepared pan (be sure crust is fully cooled), using a spatula to spread it around evenly. Chill in the fridge, covered, for at least 3 hours.

Step 5: Decorate cheesecake

In a medium-sized bowl, whip the remaining 2 cups of heavy cream, slowly adding sugar until thickened, about 5-6 minutes. Add the vanilla, and mix until combined. Place dollops of whipped cream around the perimeter of the cheesecake, then gently press the individual cookies into the dollops.

Tips for Making No-Bake Cheesecake

  • Make this dessert extra festive by adding candy corn, marshmallow pumpkins or another Halloween candy. You can also use a potato peeler to add curls of chocolate to the top, or drizzle with caramel right before serving!
  • For best results folding the whipped cream into the cheesecake batter, repeat these three motions: scrape the bowl, fold ingredients toward the middle of the bowl, then rotate the bowl a bit. Scrape, fold and rotate until the components are combined.
  • If you’re in a hurry, chill the cheesecake in the freezer for 2 hours, then finish the rest of the recipe.

What Are Dippy Eggs, and How Do You Make Them? https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/dippy-eggs/ https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/dippy-eggs/#respond Fri, 22 Sep 2023 20:30:48 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=1917286 You don't have to cross the pond to try this quintessential British breakfast.

The post What Are Dippy Eggs, and How Do You Make Them? appeared first on Taste of Home.

If you enjoy your eggs with a runny, velvety yolk perfect for soaking up with toast (hello, eggs Benedict), then you may fancy dippy eggs.

Made with four simple ingredients and ready in under 15 minutes, this simple British recipe will quickly become a popular breakfast at your house.

What are dippy eggs?

A dippy egg is a soft-boiled egg served with toast cut into long, narrow strips called soldiers. The eggs are traditionally left unpeeled and served in adorable egg cups that hold them upright to facilitate yummy toast-dipping action.

The Brits have the best names for foods (and baking phrases), from toad in a hole to a jam roly poly, and dippy eggs are no exception!

How do you eat dippy eggs?

It’s not just the name that’s fun; eating dippy eggs is a total blast, too. You’ll use a sharp knife or shell cutter to gently crack open and remove the top portion of the egg’s shell and white to reveal the gooey, soft-cooked yolk within. Then, dip away with as many toast soldiers as you please.

How to Make Dippy Eggs

Ingredients For Dippy Eggs Lauren Habermehl For Taste Of Home

This recipe makes 3 dippy eggs with toast soldiers.

Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 slices bread (choose something that’s sturdy once toasted)
  • Butter, for spreading on the toast
  • Pinch of salt, optional

Directions

Step 1: Cook the eggs

Boiling Eggs For Dippy Eggs Lauren Habermehl For Taste Of Home

Bring a small pot of water to a gentle boil. Then, carefully lower the eggs into the boiling water and cook for 5-6 minutes. Remove promptly to a bowl of cold water and let cool slightly.

Editor’s Tip: There’s more than one way to boil an egg. Try adapting the times noted in this guide for making perfect hard-boiled eggs five different ways. No matter the method you choose, remember that timing matters when making soft-boiled eggs. You don’t want the yolks to overcook.

Step 2: Prepare your soldiers

While the eggs cool, toast your bread (don’t make these toaster mistakes). Spread generously with butter and cut into narrow strips about 1/2-inch wide. Set aside.

Step 3: Crack open and serve

Use a spoon or sharp knife to remove the top portion of the egg’s shell and white to reveal the soft-cooked yolk. Place the eggs upright in an egg cup and pair with toast soldiers for dipping. Serve immediately.

What to Serve with Dippy Eggs

Enjoy dippy eggs as a standalone breakfast or serve alongside side dishes like bacon or fruit salad. You can stick to British breakfast customs and serve dippy eggs with a batch of English scones and a cup of black tea. Cheers!

Up Next: Travel even further and dip into these Turkish eggs.

How to Make the Trader Joe’s Pizza That’s Taking Over TikTok https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/viral-trader-joes-pizza/ https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/viral-trader-joes-pizza/#respond Fri, 22 Sep 2023 20:12:34 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=1917805 Pizza? Trader Joe's? We're sold!

The post How to Make the Trader Joe’s Pizza That’s Taking Over TikTok appeared first on Taste of Home.

]]>
Safe to say there are a lot of clever food trends that come from TikTok. Like burrata bowls, cowboy caviar, apple pie cinnamon rolls… the list goes on. But when a trend involves two of our favorite things—Trader Joe’s and pizza—we’re all in. Or as Gen Z says on TikTok, “say less.”

This viral Trader Joe’s pizza uses all kinds of clever Trader Joe’s-specific toppings, which means you can pick up all the ingredients in one place. And if you frequent Trader Joe’s already, then some of them are probably in your refrigerator!

Is Trader Joe’s spicy pizza good for you?

Here’s the good news, pizza lovers: You could definitely consider this meal healthy. The fluffy bed of arugula on top gives you that fix of green. (It’s practically a salad, right?) Plus, a registered dietitian created the pizza.

@blaircooleydietitian Spend date night at home with us 🤍 if you like spicy, this one’s for you! we love a Trader Joe’s recipe – this one is SO easy. If you don’t like spice, omit the bamba sauce, use regular cured meats/prosciutto, and omit red pepper flakes – still delish 🤌 #traderjoesfoodreviews #traderjoesrecipe #traderjoesdatenight #traderjoesdatenightchallenge #traderjoeseasyrecipe #datenightathome ♬ original sound – Blair | Dietitian

The viral Trader Joe’s Pizza was the vision of Blair Cooley, a dietitian based in Houston. The recipe was part of her “date night in” and is a recipe she makes regularly—and her followers love it.

It’s important to note that “healthy” tends to be subjective; what’s healthy for one person may not be healthy for another. Keeping your meal balanced—like pairing a slice or two of pizza with a side salad—will help keep this meal nutritious.

How to Make the Viral Trader Joe’s Pizza

The original recipe creator didn’t set specific measurements for her Trader Joe’s pizza, so we’ve made some guesstimates on measurements for the ingredients. As always, feel free to make it your own by adding more or less of the toppings!

Ingredients

  • Trader Joe’s Garlic and Herb Pizza Dough
  • Cooking spray (olive oil or avocado oil)
  • 1/2 cup Trader Joe’s Garlic Spread Dip
  • 1/3 cup Trader Joe’s Italian Bomba Hot Pepper Sauce
  • 1 piece burrata, torn into pieces
  • 4-6 Trader Joe’s Marinated Fresh Mozzarella balls, sliced in half
  • 8-10 slices Trader Joe’s Spicy Uncured Charcuterie Selection
  • 1/3 cup sliced roasted red bell peppers
  • 1-2 handfuls fresh arugula
  • 1-2 Tablespoons Trader Joe’s Balsamic Glaze
  • Dash red pepper flakes

Directions

Step 1: Preheat the oven

Prep your oven to 450°F. While the oven is preheating, find a 13×9-inch casserole dish. Cooley used a glass dish, but a ceramic or stainless steel one would also work.

Step 2: Prepare the dough

Spray the pan with cooking spray, then place your pizza dough on the pan. Using your fingers, dimple the dough until it spreads wide enough to cover the bottom of the pan, making room for those delicious toppings.

Editor’s Tip: It’s easier to work with dough that’s at room temperature. So before you even start, let your dough sit out for 30 minutes either in the packaging or in a clean bowl so it relaxes and warms up, making it easier to shape.

Step 3: Add your ingredients

Top your Trader Joe’s spicy pizza with all the toppings that will bake on the pizza (yes, there are more toppings after you bake to add as well). Start by spreading the Trader Joe’s Garlic Spread Dip so it covers the surface (leaving some room for a crust), followed by the Bomba sauce. Evenly spread out the torn burrata, sliced mozzarella, charcuterie meats (feel free to get creative with your selection!) and roasted bell peppers.

Step 4: Bake for 20 minutes

Place the pizza in the pan and bake it for 20 minutes. For a crispier crust, place your pan on the bottom rack of your oven.

Step 5: Top with fresh ingredients

Once the pizza is out of the oven, top it with handfuls of fresh arugula. Feel free to get generous! Then drizzle the top using Trader Joe’s Balsamic Glaze and a little bit of that marinated oil from the container of mozzarella balls. Sprinkle on red pepper flakes (the more you add, the spicier it gets!) then slice it up.

How to Make the Trader Joe’s Pizza Your Own

Try making your own dough

While Trader Joe’s does make weeknight pizza easier thanks to premade dough, you can try your hand at making your own crust with our pizza dough recipe.

Play around with the toppings

Cooley does use a lot of Trader Joe’s specific foods, but if you’re nowhere near a Trader Joe’s, that doesn’t mean you can’t try to make your own version of this viral pizza at home. Feel free to get creative with your toppings—like using ricotta cheese or a homemade pizza sauce. You could even skip the balsamic blaze and replace it with a spicy hot honey.

Use different meat combinations

This pizza uses an assortment of charcuterie fixings, but that doesn’t mean you have to use the same kinds. Cooley says prosciutto also works well with this recipe, a sweet soppressata or a spicy salami. Or simply keep the pizza vegetarian and skip the meat altogether.

Make it thin

Using a casserole dish makes a thicker pan pizza, but you could also attempt a thin crust pizza if that’s more your style. A pizza stone helps to cook a thin crust pizza easily. Prep the pizza on a large piece of parchment paper and slide it onto a preheated pizza stone for a crispy and evenly cooked pie.

The post I Tested ‘Sprite Iced Tea,’ and Here’s What I Thought About This Internet Sensation appeared first on Taste of Home.

I’m suspicious of most TikTok recipes. Pancake cerealOreo sushi? Flamin’ Hot Cheeto salad? It’s like Mad Libs, where you put random words together and see what happens. But when I saw this TikTok mashup go viral, I had to test Sprite iced tea.

What is ‘Sprite iced tea’?

You steep tea bags in Sprite to create a carbonated sweet tea. If you’re a fan of sweet tea, especially in hot weather, this thirst-quencher is worth trying.

The TikTok video that started the trend was posted on July 17 and now has 17 million views. And unlike some viral videos that demand fancy ingredients or a complicated process, this recipe is ridiculously simple to make.

How to Make Sprite Iced Tea

Ingredients For Sweet Tea Sprite Gael Fashingbauer Cooper For Taste Of Home

Ingredients

  • Sprite: Use a 20-ounce bottle for a single serving.
  • Tea bags: There are all kinds of tea bags, all brands, all flavors. Lipton is the big dog, of course, but I’ve seen TikTok creators using fancy brands and flavored teas. Lipton even has a cold brew-specific tea. I tested a variety of teas, and they all eventually work. I did discover that the bags meant for hot tea took longer to steep and impart their flavor.
  • Lemon: Have a lemon on hand for serving, along with some ice.

Directions

Pour a little Sprite out of the bottle before you add the tea bags so there’s room for the concoction to fizz and fuss. Then, add two tea bags. The Sprite bottle neck is slim, but if you’re patient, you can find a way to roll the tea bags and slide them in. Honestly, if not, make the drink in an open glass, I did this in one of my experiments, and it seemed to work fine.

Cap the bottle, and gently turn it upside down a few times to make sure the tea bags get covered in Sprite.

Now, you wait. The tea will infuse into the Sprite and it will turn the color of tea. Many of the TikTokkers I watched showed this happening within 10 minutes or so. That happened when I used the tea bags meant for cold brew, but when I used the tea bags meant for hot tea, I had to wait 30 minutes.

When the Sprite iced tea is brewed to your liking, carefully twist off the bottle cap. (If you didn’t pour out enough Sprite when you started, it may overflow.) Squeeze some fresh lemon juice into a glass with ice and pour in the Sprite-tea mix. Toss in a lemon slice, or hook one on the edge of the cup for a stylish selfie. Cheers!

What does Sprite iced tea taste like?

Sweet Tea Sprite Gael Fashingbauer Cooper For Taste Of Home

Sprite iced tea is excellent!

I’m not a huge fan of regular Sprite, which I find sweet and not especially flavorful. But the tea mellowed the sweetness of the Sprite and delivered a pleasant, tangy flavor that blended well with the soda’s carbonation. I kept going back and pouring more! It’s a delightful twist on regular iced tea.

I also think squeezing the lemon into the glass helped, as there was a nice freshness from the lemon juice.

The drink reminded me of the classic Arnold Palmer, the half-lemonade, half-iced tea beverage made famous by the iconic golfer. (There are even Arnold Palmer cupcakes!) I prefer the Sprite iced tea to an Arnold Palmer the fizz of the Sprite is a fun addition.

Summer may be about over, but we drink soft drinks all year, so I see no reason Sprite iced tea can’t stay around during colder months. Get the par-tea started!

It's a high-protein breakfast that tastes like an indulgent dessert.

The post I Made Cottage Cheese Cinnamon Toast, and It Tastes Like Dessert for Breakfast appeared first on Taste of Home.

]]>
The cottage cheese recipes all over TikTok aren’t the bland, boring diet recipes from the ’80s. Today this high-protein ingredient is being used in a bunch of fun new ways. It turns out, cottage cheese adds a delightfully creamy texture and rich flavor to many dishes. But who knew cottage cheese could also be used as a unique topping for cinnamon toast?

This quick and easy air-fryer recipe is about to change your breakfast game!

What is cottage cheese cinnamon toast?

This breakfast turns the classic cinnamon toast on its head. It’s the ideal sweet way to start your day when you aren’t in the mood for eggs or sausage, but still want a hearty dose of protein. The secret is blending the lumpy cottage cheese until it’s velvety smooth!

How to Make Cottage Cheese Cinnamon Toast

Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

Step 1: Choose your bread

Step One Of Cottage Cheese Cinnamon Toast Kristina Vänni For Taste Of Home

This cinnamon toast can be made with any bread you prefer. Feel free to use a hearty multi-grain loaf or even a traditional sandwich bread. Challah or brioche also work deliciously for a more elegant twist. If your choice of bread is on the softer side, lightly toast it before moving on to the next step.

Step 2: Blend the cottage cheese

Step Two Of Cottage Cheese Cinnamon Toast Kristina Vänni For Taste Of Home

In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon, and set aside.

Using a small food processor or immersion blender, combine the cottage cheese, vanilla extract and half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Blend until smooth.

Step 3: Top your toast

Step Three Of Cottage Cheese Cinnamon Toast Kristina Vänni For Taste Of Home

Spread the blended cottage cheese mixture over the bread slices in an even layer all the way to the edges. Sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture. Be generous, this layer ends up becoming a very thin crust on top when the toast cooks.

Step 4: Air-fry to finish

Step Four Of Cottage Cheese Cinnamon Toast Kristina Vänni For Taste Of Home

Heat the air fryer to 400°F and place the toasts in the basket. Heat until the topping just starts to bubble and lightly brown, about 5 minutes.

Here’s What I Thought

Styled Cottage Cheese Cinnamon Toast Kristina Vänni For Taste Of Home

When I took the first bite of cottage cheese cinnamon toast, I immediately thought it tasted like an indulgent dessert. In fact, the blended cottage cheese along with the sweet cinnamon-sugar reminded me of cheesecake. Yet, it didn’t feel heavy at all. In fact, it was so light and airy! I will definitely put this recipe in rotation for breakfast moving forward.

I discovered a few tips along the way to troubleshoot any hurdles. It can be challenging to blend small volumes in a blender or food processor. If you’re making just one serving, use a small food processor or an immersion blender to get the cottage cheese smooth. However, if you plan to enjoy this for breakfast all week, meal prep a larger batch of the blended cottage cheese topping and keep it in the refrigerator to use morning after morning.

I also suggest keeping a close eye on the toasts as they cook in the air fryer. Mine were close to burning on the bottom after 5 minutes at 400°, so I lowered it to 390° for the next test. It’s a good idea to know the in’s and out’s of your particular air fryer and adjust the temperature or cook time accordingly.

Last tip: If you have any leftover blended cottage cheese after making the toast, it makes an excellent fruit dip. Don’t let any of this protein-packed deliciousness go to waste!

On chilly autumn days, there is no better feeling than cozying up with hot apple cider. It’s pretty much the definition of the perfect fall drink.

That’s why we’re obsessed with this recipe that adds apple cider to a beloved dessert. That’s right, apple cider doesn’t just have to be enjoyed as a drink. There are plenty of apple cider recipes that have the tart, spiced flavor of fall in every bite. Including apple cider cheesecake cookies!

What are apple cider cheesecake cookies?

These apple cider-flavored cookies combine two of our favorite desserts: cheesecake and cookies. According to recipe developer Ginny Dyer, the cookies taste exactly like apple cider doughnuts with a cheesecake filling. Yum! Total dream dessert enjoyed preferably while watching Freeform’s 31 Nights of Halloween or a Nora Ephron rom-com.

How to Make Apple Cider Cheesecake Cookies

This viral recipe was shared by @inbloombakery on TikTok. The original post for “super chewy apple cider spiced cookies stuffed with creamy cheesecake” has 775,000 likes and counting. In other words, the internet can’t get enough!

The recipe echoes another In Bloom Bakery classic, pumpkin cheesecake cookies. And since we’re obsessed with those, too, we definitely aren’t complaining.

@inbloombakery APPLE CIDER CHEESECAKE COOKIES🍎✨ Super chewy apple cider spiced cookies stuffed with creamy cheesecake filling, brushed with butter & sprinkled with spiced sugar. The key to lots of apple cider flavor without adding too much moisture to the cookies is reducing the apple cider A LOT. Like you’re going to almost make a hard candy with it, you can see how hard and sticky it gets, but this will allow the cookies to stay super chewy while adding a strong apple flavor! And we’re stuffing them with cream cheese for good measure, but if you’d rather, you can leave the cheesecake part out ❤️ #applecidercookie #applecider #cheesecakecookies #applecookies #fallbaking #fallcookies ♬ Moonlight Serenade – Glenn Miller

Ingredients

Cheesecake filling:

  • 6 ounces cream cheese, cold
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar

Cookies:

  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 egg yolks, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Spiced sugar:

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch of allspice
  • 1-2 tablespoon salted butter, melted

Directions

Step 1: Simmer the apple cider

Start off by creating an apple cider reduction, which Ginny says is the most important step. In medium saucepan over low to medium heat, simmer 2 cups of apple cider for 25 to 38 minutes. It’s an odd range, but the exact time depends on the heat. You’ll know the reduction is almost done once the consistency noticeably becomes more bubbly. Stir consistently to make sure it’s not overdone. The final result will be 2 tablespoons of a viscous, honey-like texture.

Step 2: Prep the cheesecake filling

Throw cream cheese, granulated sugar and vanilla in a small bowl and cream with a hand mixer on medium to high speed for 2 minutes. The cheesecake filling should have a pillowy consistency and the sugar should be fully dissolved.

In increments of 2 teaspoons, line up 16 cheesecake filling scoops onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Then, pop those cheesecake dollops into your freezer. Ginny advises to wait until they’re frozen and firm so the filling won’t leak out from the cookies as they’re baking.

Step 3: Preheat the oven and prepare baking sheets

Preheat your oven to 350°F. (Fun fact, there’s a scientific reason why most recipes call for preheating the oven to 350°). Then, prep two baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.

Step 4: Create a flour mixture

Add flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, baking soda, baking powder and salt to a medium bowl and whisk it all together—the right way! Put the mixture aside.

Step 5: Cream butter and sugar

In a large bowl, cream the butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar until the result is light and fluffy.

Step 6: Add in the rest of the cookie ingredients

Add the egg yolks, vanilla and apple cider reduction to the rest of the wet ingredients. Mix on medium speed for 3 to 5 minutes.

Ginny’s Tip: The apple cider reduction will be extra sticky after it’s cool, so get ready to scrape it from a spoon!

Step 7: Combine wet and dry ingredients

Add the dry ingredients. Fully mix the ingredients all together on low speed. Use plastic wrap to cover the bowl and place it in the fridge for 15 to 20 minutes. Ginny says this makes the dough easier to work with. Don’t skip chilling the dough!

Step 8: Place the cookie dough on baking sheets

After the cookie dough has chilled, scoop 16 1-1/2 tablespoon portions of dough. Use three fingers to slightly flatten each dough portion. Grab a dollop of the cheesecake filling and place in the center of the flattened dough. Then, wrap the dough around the cheesecake filling until it’s fully concealed by the dough. Repeat for the rest of the cookies.

Take the prepared cookie dough balls and place them evenly on a baking sheet. Then, pop 6 cookies in the oven at a time. They take 11 to 12 minutes to bake, and Ginny recommends 11-1/2 minutes as the ideal baking sweet spot. Let each batch cool for 15 minutes before transferring onto a wire rack to fully cool.

Step 9: Create the spiced sugar

Add sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice to a small bowl and mix together.

Wait for the cookies to fully cool before using a pastry brush—one of the must-have pastry tools for every home baker—to brush melted butter on the top of the cookies. Then sprinkle on the spiced sugar. Your apple cider cheesecake cookies are ready to serve!

We love experimenting with different brownie flavors. While we’d never turn down a batch of fudgy chocolate brownies, fresh takes breathe new life into the classic recipe. Like these top-rated chocolate mint brownies or coconut Nutella brownies, our recipe for red velvet brownies is yet another way to take an everyday brownie recipe to the next level.

This recipe transforms red velvet cake into the perfect red velvet brownie recipe!

What Are Red Velvet Brownies Made With?

You’ll need a box of red velvet cake mix and five other basic ingredients. Top with our cream cheese frosting recipe (or store-bought frosting), and you have all of the classic tang and subtle cocoa flavor red velvet is known for.

Red Velvet Brownies Recipe

Ingredients For Red Velvet Brownies Lauren Habermehl For Toh

This recipe makes (1) 9×9-inch pan of brownies, approximately 9-12 servings.

Ingredients

  • 1 box (432g) red velvet cake mix
  • 10 tablespoons (140g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 5 ounces (135g) dark chocolate chips, melted

Frosting:

  • 8 ounces (226g) cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (85g) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2-1/2 cups (300g) confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoons salt

Directions

Step 1: Whisk together the wet ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the vanilla, buttermilk (you can make homemade buttermilk, if needed), melted butter and eggs. Beat with a whisk until well combined, then stir in the melted chocolate until evenly mixed.

Step 2: Stir in the dry ingredients

Next, add the cake mix and fold it into the wet ingredients until just incorporated. The batter will be thick and heavy.

Editor’s Tip: Take care not to overmix, as you don’t want to overwork the flour and develop the gluten too much. Nobody likes a tough and stodgy brownie.

Step 3: Rest the batter

Spread the batter evenly into a parchment-lined 9×9-inch baking pan. Then cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

For extra fudgy brownies with supreme red velvet flavor, let the batter rest, covered, in the fridge for up to 72 hours. Resting the batter improves the flavor and allows the flour to fully hydrate to yield a super decadent brownie.

Step 4: Prepare the frosting

While the brownie batter rests, prepare the cream cheese frosting. Using an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese and butter until light and fluffy. Then, slowly mix in the confectioners’ sugar until thoroughly combined. Finish with the salt and vanilla. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.

Step 5: Bake

Preheat oven to 350°F. Then bake the brownies for 20-25 minutes until the edges appear set. Remove and let cool.

Editor’s Tip: If you are Team Fudgy Brownies, try a trick from the 100-hour brownies. Immediately after removing the brownies from the oven, cover the pan tightly with foil. Transfer to the freezer and cool for 30 minutes. This trick locks in the steam and allows the moisture to condense and soak back into the brownies as they cool. The result? Ultra-dense and fudgy brownies of your dreams.

Step 6: Frost and serve

To serve, carefully remove the brownies from the pan and spread an even layer of the cream cheese frosting over top. Cut into squares. Enjoy!

New to making brownies? Here are some of our best tips for making red velvet brownies with cake mix. Don’t miss these other mistakes people make when making brownies, too.

Should the brownies turn out fudgy or cakey?

This recipe results in super dense and fudgy red velvet brownies. If you prefer cake-like brownies with a lighter, loftier texture, skip resting the batter. You could also experiment with adding one additional egg to the batter.

What kind of icing should I put on red velvet brownies?

We prefer a classic cream cheese frosting. However, that’s far from the only option! Try the white chocolate frosting from this coconut cake recipe, the cream cheese filling from these red velvet whoopie pies or a dusting of powdered sugar.

How do I store red velvet brownies?

Unfrosted red velvet brownies may be stored, covered, at room temperature for 4 days. Red velvet brownies with cream cheese frosting should be kept refrigerated due to the dairy in the frosting. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Don’t miss these other tips for storing baked goods like a pro.

It’s prime movie marathon season right now. Let’s face it, while Harry Potter can be binge-watched all year, curling up with a blanket and a pumpkin spice latte when taking a cinematic trip to Hogwarts is simply an unmatched experience.

Is there any better way to watch all eight HP films than while snacking on Harry Potter recipes? We think not. It’s time to make your way to Platform 9-3/4 for this recipe, which transforms the flavor of butterbeer into some seriously magical cookies.

All aboard the Hogwarts Express!

What Are Butterbeer Cookies?

Exactly what they sound like: butterbeer-flavored cookies. If you haven’t tried butterbeer at Universal Studios or conjured it up at home with a butterbeer recipe, the frothy drink is essentially a butterscotch-flavored cream soda. Now, imagine butterbeer in the form of a cookie. Top with buttercream for a treat even sweeter than a pumpkin pastie!

How to Make Harry Potter-Inspired Butterbeer Cookies

This recipe for butterbeer cookies is from TikTok creator @chizobacu, aka Chizoba Uwakwe. In a video with over 450,000 views so far, Chizoba uses a recipe from In Bloom Bakery to whip up some butterbeer goodness worthy of a Great Hall feast. Here’s how to make Hogwarts magic in your kitchen, too.

@chizobacu 🍪 Wizarding World Butterbeer Cookies (Butterscotch cookies) 🍻 I love Butterbeer, so when I found this recipe by @In Bloom Bakery for Butterbeer cookies on Pinterest I had to try it out. These cookies & the Harry Potter Prequel Fantastic Beasts made for a perfect and cozy night in the wizarding world. For my non Harry Potter fans, this is basically like a Butterscotch cookie. ⚡️ This recipe was fun and easy to make. Here’s what you need to try it at home. For the Butterbeer Cookies 2 cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled ½ tsp baking soda ½ tsp baking powder ½ tsp salt ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened ¾ cup light brown sugar, packed ¼ cup granulated white sugar 2 egg yolks, at room temperature 1 tbsp vanilla extract ¼ cup butterscotch chips, melted and slightly cooled ½ cup butterscotch chips For the buttercream ½ cup unsalted butter, softened ⅛ tsp salt ½ cup butterscotch chips, melted and slightly cooled 1 cup powdered sugar ½ tsp vanilla extract I will link to the full recipe in my bio. #harrypotter #butterbeer #cookies #cozy #harrypottertiktok#cozy#recipealloween #fall #autumn #movienight #butterscotch #baking ♬ Harry Potter (El mundo mágico de Harry) – Film Symphony Orchestra

Ingredients

Cookies:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 egg yolks, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup butterscotch chips, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1/2 cup butterscotch chips

Buttercream:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butterscotch chips, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1: Mix the dry ingredients

First things first, preheat your oven to 350°F. (Did you know there’s a scientific reason why most recipes call for preheating the oven to 350°?)

Then, add flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt to a medium bowl. Promptly whisk together—the right way!—and move the mixture to the side.

Step 2: Mix the wet ingredients

Next, add the butter, brown sugar and white sugar to a large bowl. Use a stand mixer on high for 2-3 minutes until the butter and sugars are creamed together. From there, add the egg yolks, vanilla extract and melted butterscotch chips to the bowl before mixing on medium speed for 1 to 2 minutes.

Step 3: Combine the wet and dry ingredients

Use your mixer on a low speed until the two are fully meshed. Then, take the unmelted butterscotch chips and stir them fully into the dough. The recipe recommends using a rubber spatula.

Step 4: Scoop dough onto a cookie sheet

For each cookie, drop 2 tablespoons of dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Each of the cookies should be about 2 inches apart. Go ahead and pop into the oven and let them bake for 10 to 11 minutes. Let the cookies cool on a baking rack.

Step 5: Make the buttercream

Grab all of your buttercream ingredients and use a stand mixer to combine thoroughly in a large bowl.

Step 6: Frost the cookies

Once the cookies are cool, use a mini spatula to frost each one with buttercream. Have fun with by drizzling caramel and sprinkles on top, too. These cookies definitely earn a Hogwarts stamp of approval.

Enjoy while you stream the Harry Potter saga on Max!
