This Popular Air Fryer Is Being Recalled—Here’s What We Know

The air fryers were sold mostly on Amazon.

It’s no secret that we’re in the midst of an air fryer craze. According to CNBC, almost 60% of U.S. households have air fryers. And, hey, we’re not fighting it. The countertop convection ovens make full-blown air-fryer dinners in a matter of minutes.

However, that doesn’t mean air fryers always work perfectly. Like all appliances, air fryers can malfunction. And if your air fryer happens to be a certain Secura air fryer, you may have experienced this firsthand. So far there have been nine reports of Secura air fryers catching fire, burning and smoking. Yikes—that’s definitely cause for a recall.

What air fryers are being recalled?

This Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recall affects Secura air fryers, specifically certain black air fryers with silver accents. There’s a faulty wire connection in the air fryer that can overheat, causing fire and burn hazards.

How do I know if I have an affected air fryer?

This recall affects 6,400 air fryers with specific model numbers and date codes. Each of these model numbers and four-digit date codes are located on silver labels at the bottom of each unit. The following model numbers and date codes are included in this recall:

  • SAF-53D (TXG-DT16E), 1901
  • SAF-53 (TXG-DS16), 1903 or 1904

The 12″ high air fryers were sold mostly on Amazon.com in the U.S. between May 2019 and October 2020. (In addition, about 680 affected air fryers were sold in Canada.) Prices ranged from $48 to $90.

What do I do next?

If you suspect you have an impacted air fryer, stop using it immediately. Then contact Secura for a $45 Amazon gift card or free replacement air fryer.

To receive either a refund or a replacement, consumers need to provide contact information and submit photos of the recalled unit with its power cord cut off. Additionally, consumers should include information about the product’s date code on the bottom of the air fryer. Receipts are not necessary.

For any further questions,  call Secura at 888-792-2360 between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT weekdays or visit Secura’s website for more information.
